Realization

I just noticed how much of a difference there really is between a high school freshman and a college freshman

When I was 14, everytime I watched TV I noticed how much older most characters are. Think about it. Most shows have high school students, very rarely are they younger.

Now a month from 18, I notice how they’re all younger than me. Most of them. It just kind of happened suddenly, too.

Practically overnight.

The second you receive your high school diploma, you are officially older than most TV characters in the popular teen shows.

Same with teen movies. You go from watching older actors playing older characters, to older actors playing younger characters.

One day the Gossip Girl, or O.C., or Degrassi, or whatever cast feel your age, the next you’re older than most.

You go from saying you wish you could drive like they are to saying you’re older almost overnight.

It’s hard to explain, really..

You think back to watching a show when you were a high school freshman, to watching the reruns as a college freshman and it feels weird.

Four years ago, those same people were older than you. Now you’re older than they.

Call it nostalgia, but it’s kind of saddening.

It’s as if everything stopped in time, and you just got older.

Four years ago the people on Gossip Girl would have been older than you, and so much cooler, and mature.

But now they’re kids to us. And now that you realize that smoking and partying and drinking don’t make you mature.. They’re immature kids to you.
